How the clinic works
We are instructed by lawyers, family support workers, legal aid organisations and individuals across Australia. Whether you attend our Melbourne clinic or use a remote kit, the aim is the same: help you meet a legal obligation with confidence.
What we are — and what we are not
We are a specialist hair sample collection clinic. We handle booking, identity verification, collection under chain of custody, and submission to the laboratory.
We do not perform the analysis. That is done by an independent NATA-accredited laboratory in Australia, operating to ISO/IEC 17025 — which is the point. The laboratory has no interest in the outcome, and neither do we.
Likewise, Dr Michael Robertson is an independent forensic toxicologist, not an employee. He is instructed separately and gives his opinion on the science regardless of who engaged him. An in-house expert whose income depended on helpful conclusions would be worth considerably less in a courtroom.
Why we exist
Court-ordered testing is overwhelming, particularly when the process is unclear or the results may be challenged. We built this to make legally compliant hair testing accessible whether you live in a capital city or a remote area.
Protocols follow strict chain-of-custody requirements and use NATA-accredited laboratories, so results are suitable for the Family Court, criminal proceedings and child protection matters.

Where you can be tested
Our collection clinic is at 4/68 Melville Road, Brunswick West VIC 3055, about 7 km from the Melbourne CBD — but our location does not limit yours. A kit is posted to your own nominated GP anywhere in Australia or overseas, and that GP acts as the official collector. Interstate, regional and international collection is a large part of what we do, analysed by the same NATA-accredited laboratory either way.
That said, attend in person if you reasonably can. It costs less and there is less to go wrong:
- No added fees. Attending avoids the $175 kit fee, and avoids whatever your GP charges for the appointment — a fee we neither set nor receive.
- Fewer points of failure. Your sample is taken by practitioners who collect daily, rather than by a GP working through the chain-of-custody protocol for the first time. Offsite collections do go smoothly, but a retest caused by an error at one is at the donor's cost.
- No postal leg. The kit has to reach your GP and the sealed sample has to travel back before the laboratory can begin. In person, it starts the same day.
