Book a hair test appointment

Hair sample collection at our Melbourne clinic for drug, alcohol or steroid testing. Interstate or international? Order a collection kit and we will arrange for it to be sent to your health professional.

Period you need covered

Head hair grows about 1 cm a month, so the length we cut sets the period the result can speak to. If a court has named a period, choose the one that covers it.

Check your hair length first. Measured from the scalp along the strand, 1 cm is about a month — so 6 months needs 6 cm and 12 months needs 12 cm. If your hair is shorter, the result covers less: the length decides the period, not the window you pay for. Unsure? Tell us below or call (03) 9380 5434 before booking.

  • Hair drug test — $599 for 3 cm, $1,198 for 6 cm
  • Hair alcohol test — $699 for 3 cm, $1,398 for 6 cm
  • Hair steroid test — $899 for 3 cm, $1,798 for 6 cm
  • Each further 3 cm costs the same again — so 9 cm is three times the 3 cm price and 12 cm is four times. All prices include GST and the appointment. Unsure what your length can cover? Call (03) 9380 5434.

Online bookings available Mon–Fri 9am–6.30pm and Sat 9am–12pm. Closed Sundays and Victorian public holidays.

Is this urgent?

If a court date or a deadline means you need the appointment inside 7 days, mark it here.

There is no surcharge on collection. The price on our fee list is the price, and we will make room wherever the diary allows.

What cannot be shortened is the laboratory: results take 5–7 business days from the day the sample is cut. If your deadline falls inside that, call (03) 9380 5434 before you rely on the date.

Medico-legal

Request a forensic report or consultation

For solicitors and individuals who already hold toxicology results — hair, blood, urine, saliva or breath — and need them interpreted by Dr Michael Robertson, independent forensic toxicologist. A verbal opinion, a written report, prepared documentation or expert witness testimony. What the service covers and what it costs, or his curriculum vitae.

This is a request, not an instant booking. Dr Michael Robertson is scheduled once your documents and payment have been received, so tell us your court date below and we will confirm availability against it. If you need a sample collected instead, book a hair test appointment above.

What do you need the forensic expert for?

Consultations are arranged Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Is this urgent?

If you need the report, opinion or court appearance within 7 days, say so here rather than in the message — it changes both what we can promise and what it costs.

A 50% short-notice surcharge applies to Dr Robertson's fees for work needed within 7 days. It covers the commitments the date displaces, it is quoted to you before anything is paid, and urgent work is not refundable once confirmed.

Availability at that notice is never guaranteed. If your date is very close, call (03) 9380 5434 as well — we would rather tell you today than after you have relied on it.

We will contact you within one business day to confirm a time. Consultations are scheduled around Dr Michael Robertson's court commitments, so this one isn't instant.
