Hair Follicle Drug Testing Near You

What to look for when searching for hair follicle testing nearby — and which questions to ask before booking.

Last updated

If you are searching for hair follicle testing near you, the practical question is not who is closest — it is whether the result will do the job you need it to do. Three things decide that: what the panel covers, whether the laboratory is accredited, and whether the sample is collected under chain of custody.

Why hair testing rather than urine or blood

Hair testing has a long detection window, which makes it the right tool for showing a pattern of use across months rather than the last few days. That is what courts, employers and treatment programs generally want to know. Where a urine test answers “recently?”, a hair test answers “over the past three months?”.

What to check before you book anywhere

The panel. Most providers screen five drug classes as standard and quote extras separately, which means choosing what to look for before you know what is there. Ours screens 95 substances at one price, with alcohol and a 42-substance steroid panel available as their own tests.

The laboratory. Ask who analyses the sample and whether they hold NATA accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025. Ours does, which is what allows a result to withstand scrutiny in a legal or workplace setting.

Chain of custody. A result is only defensible if the sample’s journey is documented from collection to analysis. We collect under chain of custody as standard, rather than as a paid upgrade.

Turnaround. Standard results are back within 5–7 business days. If a hearing date is close, say so when booking.

In Melbourne

Our clinic is at 4/68 Melville Road, Brunswick West VIC 3055, about 7 km from the CBD. Collection is done in person by trained staff, takes 15 to 20 minutes, and needs photo ID. Book a time or see directions, parking and public transport.

Outside Melbourne

You do not need to travel. A collection kit is posted to a GP or AHPRA-registered practitioner you nominate, anywhere in Australia:

  1. Order the kit. We send it to the practitioner you have nominated.
  2. They collect the sample, following the chain-of-custody protocol supplied with the kit.
  3. They return it in the secure packaging provided.
  4. Results follow within 5–7 business days of the sample reaching the laboratory.

The nominated practitioner must not be a friend or relative — the impartiality of the collector is part of what makes the result defensible. See which cities and regions we cover, and what it costs.
